R.I.P Tim Hetherington

In his 19-minute documentary short “Diary,” Academy Award-nominated filmmaker and photojournalist Tim Hetherington reflects on a decade of reporting through “a kaleidoscope of images that link our western reality to the seemingly distant worlds we see in the media.”

Hetherington was tragically killed today in Misrata, Libya, from wounds sustained during an RPG attack, making this “highly personal and experimental film” his last.

I'm home....and this was played a LOT while I was away:

Divine Comedy cover Vampire Weekend for JD sessions

On April 1, cover fans missed something incredible – or, at least, those of us who couldn’t be in Dublin did. Neil Hannon (of The Divine Comedy) covered Vampire Weekend‘s self-titled debut album in its entirety, with the help of Cathy Davey, Romeo Stodart (of The Magic Numbers), and the band Jape. The show was organized by The JD Set, a Jack Daniels venture into the music scene of the British Isles.

Hannon describes the album as “short, snappy, and gorgeous” and “an ingenious marriage of indie pop, African rhythm and classical harmony.” The ensemble takes only a few creative liberties, such as an occasional acoustic guitar, harpsichord, or tweaking of vocal harmonies, but what’s lacking in any technical change is more than made up for in the live-band energy of the sessions and the freshness of new voices on VW’s tunes.

The Los Angeles-based Uh Huh Her is the brainchild of musician/actress Leisha Hailey (L Word fame), formerly of alt-pop band The Murmurs, and Camila Grey, bassist and keyboardist with lo-fi rock band Mellowdrone, who has also worked with Dr. Dre, Busta Rhymes, Melissa Auf der Maur, Kelly Osbourne and Adam Lambert. Introduced through mutual friends, Hailey and Grey began making music together at the beginning of 2007, writing the emotionally charged electro-pop tunes that make up their first EP I See Red.

The ladies of Uh Huh Her have returned with an EP titled “Black and Blue.” The title track is a bit of dance floor delight. The EP, which can only be bought in physical form, is being sold exclusively at their live shows and website.
