tUnE-yArDs is the moniker of New England-based musician Merrill Garbus. To date, she has two full-length studio albums and is currently signed to the British independent record label 4AD. She was formerly a member of Sister Suvi.

Her debut album Bird-Brains was first released on limited edition vinyl and cassette in June 2009, via the Portland-based imprint Marriage Records. In July 2009, it was announced that tUnE-yArDs had signed to 4AD, and a limited edition pressing of BiRd-BrAiNs was released on August 17, 2009.

A second album w h o k i l l was released on April 19, 2011, preceded by the single “Bizness”. It was produced by Garbus and engineered by Eli Crews at New, Improved Studios in Oakland, California. Applying the live approach to her studio work for the first time, Garbus works with bass player Nate Brenner, who co-wrote some of the album’s songs.

tUnE-yArDs plays Whelan’s on June 17th. Tickets are €16 plus fees.

'A message' from Canada!

Bill Majoros is the songwriter and lead vocalist / Multi-instrumentalist of Psychedelic pop act The Foreign Films.

A Canadian musician who has toured, recorded and played with many Canadian acts including Universal Honey, The Paper Airplane Company, The Cloudsmen, and Altogether Morris. From 1997 to 2004, he worked as main writer & guitarist in Flux A.D., winning Hamilton Music Awards 2004 “Best Alternative Album of the Year”- fellow members in Flux A.D. included Julie Fader (from the Great Lake Swimmers and Sarah Harmer’s band), and Graham Walsh from Holy Fuck. Bill has also worked with legendary producers Bob and Daniel Lanois(Dylan,U2 etc)

The Foreign Films debut double length CD “Distant Star” was released in 2007. Co-produced along with Hamilton, ON producer Carl Jennings, the CD was nominated for “Album of the Year” Hamilton Music Awards 2007.Bill was also nominated as guitar player of the year.

Majoros and The Foreign Films accompanied by friends Kori Pop and Alex McMaster (Arcade Fire) have been slowly working on this EP as a teaser for a full LP. The EP can be streamed at their bandcamp.

History made in NZ- Unit T3 Mindtricks BMX Jam

24-year-old kiwi Jed Mildon made action-sports history by performing the world’s first (recorded) BMX triple backflip at today’s Unit T3 Mindtricks BMX Jam in Taupo, New Zealand.

“This is the perfect result to three intensive months of practicing and training for this moment,” Mildon said after landing the jump. “The impact and implications hasn’t sunken in yet, but I’m so pumped to have aimed for something once deemed impossible and made my dream a reality
