In Whelans tonight!

The Low Anthem are a folk quintet from Providence, Rhode Island, United States. They formed in 2006 and consist of multi-instrumentalists Ben Miller, Jeff Prystowsky, Jocie Adams, Mike Irwin and Tyler Osbourne. The band has released four albums: “The Low Anthem” (2006), “What the Crow Brings” (2007), “Oh My God, Charlie Darwin” (2009) and “Smart Flesh” (2011).

Ben Knox Miller and Jeffrey Prystowsky met while DJing an overnight jazz show on a Brown University radio station, WBRU. They became friends and teammates for a local wood-bat baseball team called the Providence Grays. Miller and Prystowsky played in various ensembles together ranging from classical and jazz to electronica, and the Low Anthem was formed in 2006. In the fall of 2006, Dan Lefkowitz, a bluesman from Strasburg, Virginia, joined the band and contributed to its evolving brand of songwriting with his song “This God Damn House.”

Early in 2007, Lefkowitz left the band to pursue simple living in a yurt in Arkansas. The band became a trio again in late 2007 with the addition of classical composer and clarinetist Jocie Adams, a fellow student and former NASA employee, who joined the band after a late-night recording session for the band’s album What The Crow Brings. She appears on vocals and clarinet on the album’s closing track, “Coal Mountain Lullaby.”

Red Brick House

Red Brick House are an Irish band who are renowned for their hook-laden and impossibly catchy songs. The four-piece graced the stage at Bundoran Sea Sessions and The Rory Gallagher International Festival in 2010 and have been gigging steadily for a number of years. Hot Press magazine described them as ‘a band that blends quality with some unapologetic commercialism.’

Having played bars, backs of trucks, on top of pallets and even a castle along the way, Red Brick House have honed their live set into a harmony-driven brand of alternative pop, blues, folk as well as some wisely chosen covers. They are a band born of the playlist generation. Combining Indie Rock, Alt Pop, Blues, Noise and even Country with no set style to confine them. The group have also supported renowned Irish acts Codes and Túcan, and take their influence from The Raconteurs, Rolling Stones and Radiohead.

The Ship Song Project

Three Drunk Monkeys has unveiled its long awaited long form content piece for the Sydney Opera House which features a raft of Australasian artists performing Nick Cave’s The Ship Song.
The video was launched last night and includes Neil Finn, Kev Carmody, Sarah Blasko, Angus and Julia Stone, Paul Kelly, Temper Trap, Martha Wainwright, Katie Noonan and Daniel Johns performing in different areas of the building.

It also features the Sydney Symphony Orchestra, Teddy Tahu-Rhodes with Opera Australia, The Australian Ballet, Bangarra Dance Company, Bell Shakespeare founder and director John Bell, Richard Tognetti and The Australian Chamber Orchestra.

The agency was appointed the Opera House account a year ago with The Ship Song Project being shot over a 10-month period by director Paul Goldman.

Noah Regan, Three Drunk Monkeys Creative Director said: “This project has been a true labour of love. Throughout the process two things drove everybody involved; their deep love of The House and everything it stands for and a passion for the beautiful Nick Cave song and how fitting it is for this concept. We feel we’ve created something every Australian can be proud of and share and the world can appreciate.”

The piece will be distributed online via YouTube and social media channels with the campaign also featuring TV, radio and print activity. The song is available to download on iTunes.
A 30-minute behind the scenes documentary on the making of the video, named The Ship Song Project, will screen on Foxtel later this month.
