My new favourite band of the moment is Fenech Soler hailing from Kings Cliffe in the UK. Having released two singles, The Cult Of Romance and Lies, they stormed onto the blogsphere after doing a remix of Marina and the Diamonds - Hollywood. Recently, the band’s vocalist Ben Duffy was featured on the track Paper Romance by Groove Armada taken from their latest album Black Light.

They play Crawdaddy next Friday 23rd and with tickets being a recession busting €8 you'd be foolish to miss it!! (unless that is, you're like me and going to see Brandi Carlile in the Academy, then it's not your fault!)

Marina And The Diamonds, is the stage name of Marina Diamandis, a Greek / Welsh solo artist based in London.

In small doses Marina can be magnificent. Her first major label single, Mowgli’s Road, includes insane lyrics about cutlery (“Ten silver spoons coming after me”), the beats and pacing of Green Day’s Hitchin’ a Ride, and Tori Amos-ish baroque soundscapes and wild animal noises. It’s as much Lord of the Flies as The Jungle Book. Guilty is just as interesting: bursts of harpsichord, beats more at home on a burial record, looped background vocal motifs and perhaps Marina’s best vocal performance on the album. And recent single Hollywood may sound as bombastic and ridiculous as Arnie driving a Humvee through a plate glass window, but it’s superbly enjoyable.

Judging by the auspicious critical and commercial reception to Hollywood, there will be many who find a great deal to love about Marina and her whacky voice; but there will be just as many who despise her.(BBC Music)

She releases her EP - 'All You Need'(Available from iTunes), produced by Karl Odlum (Gemma Hayes, Fionn Regan, David Kitt), this EP was recorded over a few days with a few microphones his living room in Dublin with Dave O' Callaghan on mandolin and guitar, Dave Brunton on percussion and Karl Odlum on bass.
