Say hello to Jónsi. He was previously the guitarist and vocalist of an Icelandic band called Sigur Rós, but is now establishing himself as a solo artist. Go is a phenomenal record with almost every bar bursting with beauty. It is soulful, fun, naïve and sad in its own fantastical world; if only life really were this good. This is a record that will make you believe it could be. G, will be released on April 5th, 2010… or you can just get it by clicking the image above.

March 23rd saw the release of Head First, the new album from one of the few acts that can bring dance and indie fans together: Goldfrapp.  The UK duo provide precious few surprises on the new album, instead dishing out fairly straightforward techno pop.

Head First may be Goldfrapp's simplest album to date.  Save the ethereal album closer "Voicething", these tracks have been stripped nearly bare of the gauzy swirl that has so often separated the group from straight dance acts.

One can't help but get the feeling that some of these songs were rushed for the album.  Some tracks, like the trudging "Dreaming",  feel half-conceived.  Others, like the rather ordinary "Hunt", feel like Alison laid it down in the studio and said 'alright that'll do'.

There's nothing decidedly groundbreaking or terribly fresh sounding on Head First.  It's an enjoyable, but not stellar, dose of danceable indie pop.

** Laura Marling plays The Acadmey, Dublin on 10th April **

Pale faced and precociously talented, Laura Marling was just 18 when her 2008 debut album, Alas I Cannot Swim, was nominated for the Mercury Prize. Her assured Hampshire vernacular vocals, “unnervingly grown-up” lyrics and deft’n’definite acoustic guitar picking saw her compared with the young Joni Mitchell.

Now 20, with the release of her second album, I Speak Because I Can, we see a change in tone, if not direction. The production here is more deliberate and pored-over, expanding upon the earlier bare-bones approach. A leaf out of the Mumford and Sons school of orchestration has also been taken, with Rambling Man the greatest representation of this. The development in vocal styling is also stark; gone is the wispy, quick-fire phrasing and in walks deeper, slower, huskier proclamations. In many ways darkness has replaced the brightness.

It doesn't appear within her scope to make an outright bad album, and here we are shown a few more glimpses of her gift, but yet not an overwhelming outpouring of it. It's clear that there has been a progression as a songwriter, with a previously unfound depth apparent on these ten tracks. Though it undoubtedly draws on the travails of the past two-or-so years, there remains, without a doubt, more in the can from young Laura.

The XX  - The XX

Formed in 2005, The xx are an alternative trio hailing from London, England. This is their debut album, produced by the band.

Strongly influenced by modern R&B-- the group made hay with an early cover of Womack & Womack's "Teardrops", while UK copies of xx come packed with their version of Aaliyah's "Hot Like Fire"-- the xx use a drum machine to complement their copiously tidy compositions. Unlike contemporary R&B fetishists Hot Chip or Discovery, who have clearly spent long hours internalizing Timbaland, the Neptunes, and other radio cognoscenti, the xx incorporate more abstract elements of the genre: a liberal use of bass tones and an unwavering focus on sex and interpersonal relationships.

Hot Chip- One Life Stand

Hot Chip are a Grammy-nominated electropop band formed in London, England, United Kingdom in 2000.

The best track (according to Rolling Stone)  is a marriage proposal called "One Life Stand." Hot Chip's excellent fourth record shows how compatible those sentiments can be. Frontman Alexis Taylor, a new dad, hungers for commitment and ponders the big picture over sweeping songs that set searching Yaz-like synth melodies to elegiac house throb. The Chipsters lace their songs with references to Tammy Wynette and Willie Nelson; they're old-school suckers for love, and they always give their heart-hopeful anthems just the right undercurrent of ache.

Rufus Wainright-All Days Are Nights: Songs for Lulu (5th Apr 2010) - Download Here

All Days Are Nights: Songs for Lulu is the sixth studio album by Canadian-American singer-songwriterRufus Wainwright, scheduled to be released in spring 2010.[4] The album was produced by Wainwright (with Pierre Marchand on three tracks), and mixed by Marchand, who produced Wainwright's second album, Poses (2001).

All Days or Nights is Wainwright's first release since the death of his mother, folk singer Kate McGarrigle, who died from cancer in January 2010.[5] While Wainwright is known for lush orchestrations and arrangements, this album contains piano and voice work,[6] with nine original songs as well as three adaptations of William Shakespeare's sonnets ("Sonnet 10", "Sonnet 20", and "Sonnet 43").

"CocoRosie are two American-born sisters, Sierra and Bianca, who started making music together in Paris in 2003. Their first album, La Maison de Mon Rêve, was released in 2004 and their second album, Noah’s Ark, followed in 2005. Their third and, to now, most recent album, The Adventures of Ghosthorse and Stillborn, came out in 2007. All three of these albums were released worldwide on Touch and Go Records and earned positive critical acclaim both overseas and at home.

The nomadic duo (currently and temporarily residing in New Mexico) spent much of 2008 writing and recording in Buenos Aires, Melbourne, Berlin, New York, and Paris, finding amazing and diverse musicians to collaborate along the way. The result is their 11-song Sub Pop debut, Grey Oceans, due out May 11th, 2010."

Little known guitar prodigy, 24 year old, Australian, Orianthi Panagaris has already experienced what most aspiring musicians only dream of. She's opened for her hero (Steve Vai), backed an Idol (Carrie Underwood), traded solos with a legend (Carlos Santana) and shared the stage with the King of Pop (Michael Jackson). What's left to conquer? The world stage, for one, and this guitar wunderkind has her sights clearly set on the road ahead.

Orianthi packs modern girl-power punch into every turn of phrase, but it’s the shredding that takes her brand of rock to an entirely new level. Songs like “Suffocated” and “Think Like A Man” are anthemic rock tracks recalling at time Evanescence, Avril Lavigne, Paramore and even a less-music row more-sunset strip Taylor Swift. First single “According To You” is a catchy tale of an ungrateful boyfriend with a killer guitar solo. The result: a thunderous, hook and riff driven debut that sounds larger than life. If, for a moment, you’ve thought the music world could use another taste of The Runaways’ Joan Jett, let us introduce you to Orianthi.
