Who's B.O.B?

21 year old, B.o.B.(Bobby Ray), hailing from Atlanta Georgia, is causing a big stir among some circles on the interweb. His first single "Don't Let Me Fall" has been leaked...don't say I didn't share it :)

It might seem that Jason DeRulo came out of nowhere, but the young sensation has gathered experience in recent years winning talent competitions and appearing onstage in musical productions form the age of 5 and writing for artists like Diddy, Cassie and Pitbull from 16, Jason Derulo has actually been doing big things off the radar for a while now. With his self-titled debut comes his time to shine, but will he be able to prove himself as more than just another one-hit wonder?

Overall, while Jason Derulo’s self titled album may not be particularly groundbreaking, it contains a bevy of radio-ready songs playing off the formula that has been so successful for him in recent times, which should please fans. JR Rotem’s production makes the album stick together considerably well, but listeners might grow tired of hearing the same synths and snares on every song. With quite a few great pop songs and nothing on the album that can truly be labeled as “bad”, Derulo has done well on his debut to distance himself from the stigma of being a “one hit wonder” - whether he can go above and beyond this is something that remains to be seen, however. Here is the debut album from Empire Of The Sun – an electro- psychedelic project led by Luke Steele, the enigmatic wunderkind behind Australia’s The Sleepy Jackson and Pnau’s Nick Littlemore. Exotic, lavish, larger-than-life, Empire Of The Sun brings together these two unlikely collaborators from Australian pop. ‘Walking On A Dream’ is a bold, visionary and brilliant album, which manages to sound exhilaration contemporary, audaciously forward-looking, yet also curiously archaic all at once.

Out of Our Minds is the second solo album from Melissa Aud Der Maur, released six years after her self-titled debut, the album was also accompanied by a feature film and comic of the same name. According to reports, the album has been completed since 2007.

A highly skilled bass player, we already noticed her as a songwriter among the girls in Hole the great redhead appears, through her intimate work, as a very complex person, assuming the schizophrenic part inherent to any independent artist: feet in the ground and mind high in ethereal world of dreams.

Melissa assumes her musical roots on this album and speaks to the Elements over “Follow the Maps” to tame them, to calm their epic tension and to guide the listener beyond the waves of guitars which break out by fits and starts, rough sometimes, tourmented often, moving always to their most quiet passages. Quiet times that announce the storm (“22 below”).

Climates move so, along kind of a Sabbath the Queen of which would wear hair of fire and sing ancient chants (“1 000 years”, definitive and excellent). Forests are bleeding but resting reproved peoples gathered for a last dance around the father’s grave. The mass is told. This record shakes deep in as much as it appeals to soul. And we will be the ones who follow her to the end.

Fever Ray (2009)

1. "If I Had a Heart"
2. "When I Grow Up"
3. "Dry and Dusty"
4. "Seven"
5. "Triangle Walks"
6. "Concrete Walls"
7. "Now's the Only Time I Know"
8. "I'm Not Done"
9. "Keep the Streets Empty for Me"
10. "Coconut"

Fever Ray is the solo project of Karin Dreijer Andersson, who is one half of the Swedish electro act The Knife (the other half is her brother Olof Dreijer). Andersson was also the lead singer and guitarist for the defunct indie pop group Honey is Cool.

What would you do if one decade into your career you suddenly saw one of your songs turned into a worldwide hit, won six Grammis in your native Sweden and your latest release was declared album of the year by one of the world’s most influential music websites? If you’re Karin Dreijer Andersson, formerly singer with ‘90s pop hopes Honey is Cool and now one half of The Knife, the answer is to take a couple of years off and return as a solo artist under a new name: Fever Ray.

Fever Ray’s self-titled debut album was groundbreaking. The electro sounds and lyrics are similar to frontwoman Karin Dreijer Andersson’s former project The Knife, yet evoke an even eerier and emotionally intense feeling that is fast-paced and experimental in sound. Karin delivers a truly unique auditory experience that blends fantasy with the nightmarish and unknown. Seeing Fever Ray perform live at Webster Hall in New York City this year was definitely unlike any other live show I’ve seen to date. “When I Grow Up,” “Seven,” and “If I Had A Heart” are among the best tracks on the album, with videos that parallel in the strange and unique. The album penetrates your curiosity, half-terrifying, half-calming, and draws you into Karin’s world — highly emotional, complex and wonderfully weird.(ForTheBeat)

BRMC's fifth studio album, the band's first studio release since last year's The Effects Of 333, and in many ways, it represents a new start for the decade-old trio.

With its opening title-track, Beat the Devil's Tattoo sets an immediate, engaging marker, yet War Machine soon stands up as the album lynchpin. Steered by white noise and cynicism, it's a proud barrage of rapier percussion and wailing guitar dynamics that lurches in all the right ways.
It's also the excessively cool, monochrome reminder that BRMC – once upon a time – were more concerned with smothering guitar psychedelics than pedestrian, harmonica-led meanders. The turgid piano and ambling pace of The Toll, and Long Way Down, are the sacrificial lambs this time.

But nestled beside these slighter offerings is the slow burn of Evol and the gloriously mordant Shadow's Keeper. When pitted against BRMC's finer moments of eyes-closed indulgence – like the pastoral Sweet Feeling – it’s clear that the album’s conflict makes for an increasingly frustrating listen.
A realm away from the much-maligned direction of Baby 81, Beat the Devil's Tattoo undoubtedly has its highlights. But where BRMC might have given us clarity, we’ve got contrasts instead.

Some grousing from fans greets most posthumous Jimi Hendrix studio releases. And fair enough: Hendrix can't offer his opinion anymore, and between past dubious product (i.e., the heavily overdubbed Crash Landing) and ongoing estate squabbles, there's been plenty of sketchy business over the years. But on Valleys of Neptune — a collection of more-or-less previously unreleased tracks recorded with the Jimi Hendrix Experience in 1969, assembled by the archivists at Legacy and the Hendrix estate — the music is seething, gorgeous, alive

Soldier of Love is the latest chapter in Grammy winning Sade Adu's incredible run as a mystery woman. Her first album in 8 eight years. The songs on Soldier of Love depict a soul whose wounds still sting but are healing with the hope that love will return. “My heart has been a lonely warrior before, whose been to war, so you can be sure,” Sade sings on “The Safest Place”, which brings the album’s ten songs to a pensive conclusion. It’s a closing statement that suits the context of the album, a kind survivor’s guide to love.

The qualities that millions of devoted fans enjoy about Sade are placed in new contexts on Soldier of Love. While listeners may not hear anything precisely reminiscent of their favorite songs on Promise (1985) or Stronger Than Pride (1987), they will hear Sade tread new territory. “I never want to repeat myself,” the singer has said. In this first year of a new decade, Sade bravely soldiers on, ever-committed to her artistic vision.

Marina And The Diamonds, is the stage name of Marina Diamandis, a Greek / Welsh solo artist based in London.

In small doses Marina can be magnificent. Her first major label single, Mowgli’s Road, includes insane lyrics about cutlery (“Ten silver spoons coming after me”), the beats and pacing of Green Day’s Hitchin’ a Ride, and Tori Amos-ish baroque soundscapes and wild animal noises. It’s as much Lord of the Flies as The Jungle Book. Guilty is just as interesting: bursts of harpsichord, beats more at home on a burial record, looped background vocal motifs and perhaps Marina’s best vocal performance on the album. And recent single Hollywood may sound as bombastic and ridiculous as Arnie driving a Humvee through a plate glass window, but it’s superbly enjoyable.

Judging by the auspicious critical and commercial reception to Hollywood, there will be many who find a great deal to love about Marina and her whacky voice; but there will be just as many who despise her.(BBC Music)

Make what you will of it.

//Also, if any of ye are going to Kate Nash in the Academy tonight, or about the capital, check out her support, Sister Lovers..... I went to school with 2 of these guys, and they're pretty decent! It's only about €20  for the Kate Nash gig.
