New Zealand

AP Photo/NZPA, Denis Callesen

The Atlantic’s In Focus blog is posting large images coming straight out of New Zealand after this week’s 6.3-magnitude earthquake. While there are certainly many sad images of buildings crumbled, people hurt, and people deceased, one of the images that In Focus decided to post was this one above showing a large iceberg/glacier which had fallen into the waters around New Zealand as a result of the quake.

It’s a different perspective of the disaster that I haven’t seen reported about anywhere else.

I'm really sorry, but I find this hilarious!

Oh Land

Oh Land is a peculiar new cinematic electropop Dane who recently sailed across the sea to the artistic haven of Brooklyn, NY. With an opera singer for a mother, a theater organist for a father and Björk’s Homogenic on constant rotation.

She spent her days pirouetting as a ballet dancer at the Danish Royal Ballet Academy when an injury forced her to reinvent herself and discover her true talent and passion as a musician. Oh Land was discovered by Kasper Bjorke who soon released her first album, Fauna, which garnered critical acclaim in her homeland of Denmark. Her soundscapes are lavish, crunchy, symphonic, brute and captivated with rhythms that fly apart.

Loving this video!

OMD release their first album in 14, yes FOURTEEN years on the 28th of this month! History of Modern will be the debut single, and if it's anything to go by, they haven't lost their catchy synth pop sound from those Pretty In Pink "If You Leave" days.

Beth Ditto - Solo EP

Produced by Simbian Mobile Disco. Beth Ditto is not going solo, but is releasing a solo EP...make what you will, this is her first track from it, and any Madonna fans out there will spot numerous similarities in this homage to "Justify My Love".

Little Rowan Murphy from Dundalk

This little gem is from 5 year old Rowan Murphy, hailing from the tropics of Dundalk, Co. Louth, Ireland!
Doing a very decent cover or Caitlin Rose's 'Own Side'.
Watch this space!

Clever little things aren't they.

I want to see this done for Gaelic.

It Gets Better.

Although I probably won't be buying this, I'm a bit past that stage in my life, I think this is a great thing and every school should have a copy of it.

YouTube kids are so talented!

Hi hello possibly you are aware of this adorable ten year old girl who somehow came out with a cover of Born This Way about twenty-five seconds after it was released. Gaga herself freaked out over the cover, and now young Maria Aragon gets to duet with Gaga in Toronto in March. I have been alive almost three times longer than this girl and that’s still never happened to me, so that’s pretty good!

haha

Sports Sunday

Riot Grrrl, kinda :)

Violet Violet, hailing from Norwich, are tasty, barbed musical morsels snatched from the fingers, mouths and hearts of PJ Harvey, Sleater-Kinney and Huggy Bear, heavily seasoned with violet violet’s own arty brand of vibrant wit and wisdom.

This is gossip rock. It’s edgy, full-on bitching, harmoniously delivered by a feisty trio of sardonic sirens. Tumbling tunes stuffed full of perfect and primal tribal rhythms with buzzsaw bass, gyrating guitars and a dual-pronged lead vocal attack that’s guaranteed to get you singing and bopping along to their infectious DIY dancefloor ditties.

The Ebony and Ivory EP' is OUT NOW, if you haven't already got your copy, pick one up today here.
