Belo Monte Dam
The chief Raoni cries when he learns that brazilian president Dilma released the beginning of construction of the hydroelectric plant of Belo Monte, even after tens of thousands of letters and emails addressed to her and which were ignored as the more than 600,000 signatures. That is, the death sentence of the peoples of Great Bend of the Xingu river is enacted. Belo Monte will inundate at least 400,000 hectares of forest, an area bigger than the Panama Canal, thus expelling 40,000 indigenous and local populations and destroying habitat valuable for many species - all to produce electricity at a high social, economic and environmental cost, which could easily be generated with greater investments in energy efficiency.
There's a petition you can sign against the building of the dam - here
The world is a mad place!
Photo of the “Llullaillaco Maiden”, a 15 year old girl sacrificed during the Inca Empire for both purposes of religious rite and social control. She was chosen a year prior to her death, fed a ritualistic diet for an approximate twelve months to make her gain weight, then was drugged and left on the shrine at Volcano Llullaillaco, where she was left to die of exposure. For five hundred years, her body had been preserved at 82 ft. She is considered to be the best preserved Andean mummy ever uncovered.

'Jobless Paddy'
The billboard on Merrion Road in Dublin has cost Mr Mac An Iomaire €2000 for 2 weeks.
The ad contains a picture of the 26-year-old marketing graduate facing a number of famous landmarks from Sydney, London and New York with the message: "Save me from emigration."
His ad has struck a chord across Ireland at a time when about 50,000 citizens, many of them young graduates, are expected to leave this year for work abroad. There are still up to 400,000 jobless workers in Ireland due to the property crash and the country's fiscal crisis.
Mac An Iomaire said he came up with the idea after being unemployed for eight months after a year in Australia.
"I had a good bit of money saved when I came home from Australia but I was managing to live on jobseeker's allowance. I gave it a week of hard thinking to come up with the concept and nothing was going to stop me then," he said.
Writing on his Facebook page he explained why he had decided to go to such lengths.
"Having tried and failed for months and exhausted all traditional job hunting avenues, I have decided to have one last throw of the dice to remain in Ireland before I am forced to look elsewhere for work and develop myself professionally," he said.
He added that he hoped to stay in Ireland and "be part of this country's recovery".
Adorable of the day!

I got sick just watching the video!
24-year-old kiwi Jed Mildon made action-sports history by performing the world’s first (recorded) BMX triple backflip at today’s Unit T3 Mindtricks BMX Jam in Taupo, New Zealand.
“This is the perfect result to three intensive months of practicing and training for this moment,” Mildon said after landing the jump. “The impact and implications hasn’t sunken in yet, but I’m so pumped to have aimed for something once deemed impossible and made my dream a reality
