Belfasts Finest
The Lowly Knights are based in Belfast, and offer up hearty ramshackle folk tunes.
They have shared the stage with The Divine Comedy, Mumford & Sons, Port O’Brien, Duke Special, Iain Archer, Matthew & The Atlas, Frightened Rabbit, and on a number of dates as support for Snow Patrol on their recent UK arena tour.
The Knights’ first two recordings, “The Rifles EP” and “The Hollow EP” were critically acclaimed. Music magazine Alternative Ulster voted “Devotion” one of their top 50 Northern Irish songs of the last 5 years. Their third release, “The Even Keel EP”, was released in October 2010 and claims to be “bigger and bolder” than ever.

Some amazing Irish talent!
Norabelle are an acoustic minimalist folk duo from Dundalk consisting of Ken Clarke (Guitar & Vocals) and Shane O’Hanrahan (Guitar, Vocals and Piano). They play steady melodic folk music with delicate pick guitar and harmonized vocals. They have recently recorded their debut EP titled “Come The Bluest Dawn” which has been received very well both in the UK (released through Static Caravan Records) and in Ireland (released independently). The EP features 4 songs: Still, Pins & Needles, Underpass and Lemon. Their influences include Sun Kil Moon, Bonnie Prince Billy, Red House Painters, Lambchop, Smog, Bill Callahan and many, many more.
Press Clippings of Wren:
"Musically, it’s hushed cello and sparse piano, and if you think more along the lines of the similarly musically hued Adrian Crowley or Bill Callahan, you’ll have some idea of the elegance on display here." (The Ticket)
"For Norabelle, simplicity is key, their tender harmonies icing a cake of delicate acoustic guitar, piano, cello and percussion. There's a beauty to Gregarious Bird and Wren that is truly breathtaking". (Hotpess)
I'm sorry what??
And Ian McCrea of Mid-Ulster hopes that Donegal do the job on his native LondonDerry in the Ulster Final. Why? So that Mid-Ulster taxpayers don’t have to fund ‘needless’ civic ceremonies. I guess you could tell from the photo above, which was ripped from his website, that McCrea doesn’t support his local GAA club.

The Pains of Being Pure of Heart - NY Indie Pop!
The Pains of Being Pure of Heart is an indie pop band which formed in 2007 in New York City.
After garnering widespread acclaim from the likes of The New York Times, Pitchfork and NME to countless indiepop forums, blogs and even Live Journals for their out-of-nowhere s/t 2009 Slumberland debut, have The Pains made the kind of record that will matter to the kind of people to whom records still matter?
Sounds like it! Spin chose Belong as one of the upcoming "winter albums that matter most", and Pitchfork gave the single "Heart in Your Heartbreak "Best New Music, stating "It's immediately appealing in the same way their debut was."
