Ever since seeing Conor O'Brien perform, 6 months ago in a packed upstairs bar of Doyles Pub, I became interested in his band,  Villagers. Indie/Folk

Sooooo Joshua Radin plays the Academy on April 26th.

I dunno when I first discovered Joshua Radin but I remember it was the song Closer.

But this post isn't about Joshua it's about Lissie....who will be supporting him on tour.

Lissie Maurus, born in Rock Island, Illinois, on the banks of the Mississippi River, has the voice, the songs and the image to be huge in 2010. Her first release, Why You Runnin’, pitches her midway between the ethereal spookiness of Jesca Hoop or Neko Case and the commercially copper-bottomed country-rock lilt of Sheryl Crow and solo Stevie Nicks. The EP captures what makes Maurus so compelling: a clear-as-a-bell singing voice, a knack for melody that sounds effortless, a direct line to a song’s emotional core, and a talent way too big for just one canyon.” - Sunday Times Culture

Indie/Alternative

It's been a couple of years since I was told to listen to Bombay Bicycle Club, and I never got around to it properly, until recently.

Bombay Bicycle Club are an indie rock band from Crouch End, London. The band is composed of Jack Steadman (lead vocals, guitar, xylophone), Jamie MacColl (lead guitar, backing vocals), Ed Nash (bass guitar, keyboards, vocals) and Suren de Saram (drums, guitar, backing vocals).

The band were asked to play the opening performance of 2006's V Festival after winning Channel 4's "Road to V" competition. Following the release of two EPs and their debut single "Evening/Morning",the band have recorded their debut album, I Had the Blues But I Shook Them Loose.(iTunes Store link)

They're on Irish soil in May when they support Foals at the Academy on May 14th, well worth checking out I think!

"Steady feet, don't fail me now, gonna run till you can't walk."

Electronic/Indie

My new favourite band of the moment is Fenech Soler hailing from Kings Cliffe in the UK. Having released two singles, The Cult Of Romance and Lies, they stormed onto the blogsphere after doing a remix of Marina and the Diamonds - Hollywood. Recently, the band’s vocalist Ben Duffy was featured on the track Paper Romance by Groove Armada taken from their latest album Black Light.

They play Crawdaddy next Friday 23rd and with tickets being a recession busting €8 you'd be foolish to miss it!! (unless that is, you're like me and going to see Brandi Carlile in the Academy, then it's not your fault!)

Speaking of Marina and the Diamonds here's a taste of the forthcoming UK tour visuals, shot on Hollywood Boulevard, and is also Marina's very own entry into the Robot Re-Make video competition! - more details on the competition here.

'I Am Not A Robot' is released in the UK on 26th April 2010 via 679/Atlantic. The single can be pre-ordered from iTunes

**This is not the official video for "I am not a robot", that would be here.

As with most Irish artists. iTunes album link(above) + 2 track download (here).

Fionn Regan, Irish singer-songwriter who hails from Bray, Co Wicklow enjoyed a warm response from the media and general public alike with the release of his ‘Hotel Room’ EP in 2004, which highlighted the captivating rawness of both his songs and his performance in a way that was both refreshing and inspiring. Better still, Regan has repeatedly proved that he can better his records when he plays live.

Citing his musical influences as Leadbelly, Howling Wolf, Bob Dylan, The Beatles, Neil Young, The Velvet Underground, The Pixies and Nirvana, Regan has drawn comparisons to Young, Woody Guthrie and John Lennon. He has supported the likes of American Music Club, John Prine, Turin Brakes and rising newcomers Joanna Newsom and Willy Mason, to name but a few. Turin Brakes’ Olly Knights has said that Regan’s “ability to paint weighty and sublime imagery with words is untouchable and very rare, yet it’s combined with a sweet charm that renders all cynicism impotent.”

Musically adept and with something genuine and affecting to say, Fionn Regan is growing up in public and for that we should all be thankful. At this rate, by the time he’s 30, he’ll be a national treasure.

“A playful authenticity, sparse eloquence, you can’t fault the voice ”
NME

A brilliantly bold, robust work, showcasing real development and the kind of graceful erudition that places Regan squarely ahead of the curve.
BBC Review

After folky troubadour beginnings, his second album keys into the rollicking energy of vintage rock 'n’ roll, while also forging a unique, observational and genuinely beat-poetic lyrical vocabulary. Terrific stuff.

Likened to a young Bob Dylan by those lost for a better way to describe a talented singer-songwriter-His material certainly stands up to the test

Live at Vicar St

Blondie will be giving their fans the experience they've been waiting for with a combination of new music from their upcoming album and classic hits.

Blondie are soon to release their first album in six years, "Panic of Girls'" and is set to be what fans have been craving. "We are really proud with the body of work on Panic of Girls. The album is a combination of numerous musical styles. We have been in the studio for a long time now so we are excited to get out on the road and debut the new songs live for our fans," says front woman Debbie Harry.

Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductees (2006), music, style and pop culture icons and best selling recording artists, Blondie emerged from late '70s new wave punk scene in New York City and defied easy categorization. They wrote great rock hooks and brilliant, ironic lyrics. They had the hippest clothes and the coolest hair.

Debbie Harry went from the pages of Punk magazine to the cover of just about every mainstream publication on the news stands. With multiple #1 smash hits like "Heart of Glass," "One Way Or Another," "Call Me," "Rapture" and "Maria," the band has sold more than 40 million albums worldwide.

It's a big day for you Glee fans!
