Seattle based The Head and the Heart write and play songs that speak to the newness of a fresh start, of the ghosts left behind, of moving forward, all brimming with a soulfulness and hope for a better life than the one we’ve all been sold.

was formed after five twentysomethings met at an open mic night in Seattle.

"None of us knew each other beforehand," recalls singer Josiah Johnson. "I just happened to go to the same open mic. [Jonathan Russell] played some songs and I played some songs, then we started talking and hanging out."

After the band self-released its eponymous debut album last June, the emblematic Seattle label Sub Pop will reissue the album in April. The Head And The Heart is a bright, powerful debut full of classic harmonies, a la Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young and The Beatles.

This is the first time since 2003 that Google doesn’t have a St. Patrick’s Day Google Doodle on the google.com home page.

The logo above is just being used on google.ie. It might have something to do with the crisis in Japan, apparently.

Noah and The Whale

Noah and the Whale is an alternative/folk group formed in Twickenham, London, England, in 2006.

They have been compared to Neutral Milk Hotel, Bonnie Prince Billy and Belle & Sebastian, and the band cites both punk rock and folk as influences.

Following the end of a relationship between Charlie Fink and Laura Marling, the band released The First Days Of Spring, a concept album written about Laura. It came with a film to accompany the album, written and directed by Charlie. Here's a snippet:

The Shoes - fresh indie pop from France!

Fresh and dance-y French indie electropop. Similar to Passion Pit, but with male and female vocalists.

As a HUGE Big Love fan, I'm LOVING this:

Finished filming Red Riding Hood Amanda was obviously inspired by her latest flick as she gently strums her guitar and lends her soulful sound to a cover of the '60s classic "Li'l Red Riding Hood" by Sam the Sham & The Pharoahs (NOTHING to do with the film).

I'm loving her voice! eek!

Day 09 - A Song That You Can Dance To

These two songs, jointly, will get me on the dance floor from ANY location I could be at :)

Such a happy song. The irony.

Katie Costello - Lamplight (2011)

Katie Costello is physiologically young, mentally ancient, and prides herself in having a keen eye for kitsch. When not “song-doodling,” as she has been known to call it, Katie can be found sulking in public libraries, skimming through critically acclaimed tween drama-comedy novels, and/or collecting cute rocks with fun personalities from her hometown Hermosa Beach, or some other rock-abundant natural setting. Katie is recognized by a unique lyrical approach to her vintage-esque original tunes. (According to her bio)

Day 6 - A Song That Reminds You Of Somewhere

Ah coming home from work and chilling to this album before hitting mid week drinkies! Those were the days!

Video Spoof

A shot for shot video spoof of the great Duck Sauce music video ‘Barbra Streisand’ and a side by side video comparison as well.

The video was that it was made in reaction to a politician in Austria named Ursula Stenzel, who was looking to set a 4am curfew on nightclubs. The clever things in the local Vienna music scene created the video and it’s pretty sublime. Armand Van Helden also makes a cameo saying “Ursula Stressned” which translated means “Ursula, don’t stress”.
