Azure Ray is an American indie duo, consisting of musicians Maria Taylor and Orenda Fink. Azure Ray started in Athens, Georgia, in 2001 and later relocated to Omaha, Nebraska and joined the music scene there, leading to collaborations with Bright Eyes and Now It’s Overhead, among others. Their sound is sparse and understated, with intimate lyrics, elements of alt-country and folk Americana, and occasional forays into minimalist electronica.

Azure Ray disbanded in 2004 and Maria and Orenda have released solo albums on Saddle Creek Records.

Azure Ray reunited in 2009 after a hiatus of more than five years and began touring again with other Saddle Creek artists as supporting members, notably Andy LeMaster of Now It’s Overhead. They are currently (as of July 2009) working on a new album.

Corin Tucker (born November 9, 1972) is a singer and guitarist, best known for her work with rock band Sleater-Kinney. In April 2010 Tucker announced she was recording a solo album for Kill Rock Stars to be released in October 2010. Working along Tucker on her solo album is Unwound’s Sara Lund and Golden Bears’ Seth Lorinczi. According to Tucker, the album will be a “middle-aged mom record”. The band’s first album, 1,000 Years (2010), was released in October of 2010 on Kill Rock Stars to generally favorable reviews.

Foals

Foals - Blue Blood from Blink on Vimeo.

Forget the X-Factor, director Chris Sweeney’s latest music video for Foals gives you that five-minutes-of-fame giddyness without having to park yourself in front of the TV for a full Saturday night. Young actor James Wilson gives a sterling lip-sync performace throughout, and helps us act out a fantasy I know you’ve all had, regardless of your age.

Guillaume Yann Tiersen is a French musician. He has received classical training at several musical academies, including those in Rennes, Nantes, and Boulogne.

His music is mostly instrumental, decorated with piano, accordion, harpsicord, violin, mandolin, bass, guitar, banjo, melodica, toy piano, typewriter, vibraphone and various rhythm instruments.

This is his first studio album entirely in English. There's a really nice review of it over here.

The multi-talented Cheryl Cole has managed to juggle her X Factor judging responsibilities with divorcing her philandering husband and that nasty bout of malaria and produce a second solo album just in time for the lucrative "Now, performing her latest single on X Factor's Sunday night results show..." time of year.

Messy Little Raindrops, released on November 1, will be preceded by the single 'Promise This' on October 25.

The record features 11 tracks and includes collaborations with Travie McCoy on the song 'Yeah Yeah', August Rigo on 'Better To Lie' and Dizzee Rascal on the track 'Everybody, Everyone'.

It was recently announced that the X Factor judge's next single to be lifted from the LP is called 'The Flood'.

Welsh band Paper Aeroplanes are taking those words that you hear in your head and shooting them across the ether. The band have recently mixed tracks with John Reynolds (Sinead O’Conner, Andrea Corr, Indigo Girls) and are being compared to Rilo Kiley, Cranberries and Suzanne Vega.

Reviews and blogs have said thing like… “Sarah Howells’ vocals slithers through their songs’ melodies like an ice-cold bottle of Coca Cola on a scorching summer day.”…

…”Tongue-tied? Paper Aeroplanes has the ability to take those feelings that most people have difficulty expressing and puts them into articulate words. The words are then merged with beautiful tunes…resulting in a lovely album”

Gay mens Chorus of Los Angeles (and friends) sing True Colours

This rather lovely rendition of the Cyndi Lauper classic is their contribution to the It Gets Better campaign.
