Agnes Caroline Thaarup Obel is a Danish singer, songwriter and musician. Agnes began playing piano as a child, thus discovering songwriting. In her late teens she founded the Copenhagen based band, Sohio, together with the Danish musician and producer Elton Theander. The two worked together for several years. Agnes is known for her “do-it-yourself” attitude to music making. She writes, plays, sings, record and produce her material on her own. Agnes Obel’s piano led motifs recall Satie, Debussy, and even Saint-Saens as much as they evoke contemporaries like Joanna Newsom, Feist and the late Elliot Smith. Anges Obel’s debut single “Just So” was written and recorded in her bedroom. Her debut album ‘Philarmonics’ was released in October of this year

It features such classics as O Holy Night, Jingle Bells and God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen, along with We Need A Little Christmas, Jingle Bells and a very special Dr. Seuss inspired You’re A Mean One, Mr. Grinch

Tickets for the show are available here.

Boy & Bear
Having made quite a name for themselves in their native Australia, this five piece from Sydney play their debut UK and Irish headline show as part of Communion Belfast. Due to the strength of their live show, they’ve been invited to play alongside folk royalty such as, Angus & Julia Stone, Mumford & Sons and Laura Marling. This UK tour marks the release of their EP ‘With Emperor Antarctica’ on Chess Club Records. Listen to them online and you’ll soon see what all the fuss is about.

Gareth Dunlop
Gareth is becoming something of a household name around the Belfast music scene. His soulful voice shows maturity far beyond his years, as does his song writing. In recent months Gareth has found himself on the other side of the Atlantic playing shows throughout Northern America, some of these shows were supporting Angus & Julia Stone. This is his homecoming show, and we look forward to seeing what will happen next for him.

Andrew Davie
I’d expect Davie has just about recovered from the time he spent at Open House Festival this year. If he wasn’t playing a sold out show supporting Mumford & Sons and Lissie or doing a session for Belfast’s impressive Bandwidth Sessions, he’d be getting his hands dirty by giving out flyers and generally lending a helping hand. With a variety of deals on the table, it seems to only be a matter of time until things explode for Davie. As a festival favourite, we are delighted to have him back in Belfast, this time for a more intimate show.

The Cat Empire

The Cat Empire is a six-piece alternative band from Melbourne, Australia. Their sound has been described as a fusion of jazz, funk, and rock with heavy latin / salsa influences (not to mention reggae, ska and dub). Currently, the Cat Empire consists of Ollie McGill (keyboard and backing vocals), Ryan Monro (bass and backing vocals), Felix Riebl (percussion and vocals), Harry James Angus (trumpet and vocals), Will Hull-Brown (drums), and Jamshid “Jumps” Khadiwhala (decks, percussion). They have a reputation for incendiary live performances and though they just played their 800th show in the UK, they played Dublins Academy on Friday, their first visit to Ireland.

There's an interview over on State. Their new album 'Cinema' is available on iTunes.
